REGULATIONS
1 – DESCRIPTION
Asolo Art Film Festival (AAFF) is the international Festival of Films on Art and Art Films of Asolo (Italy). The purpose is the promotion of the films on arts, videos, media art through the competitive festival which is done every year.
Asolo Art Film Festival (AAFF) is an international festival dedicated to art films and films about art that takes place in Asolo (Italy). It’s purpose is to promote art films and audio-video works of art in all their forms, through a yearly prized competition that showcases said works.
2 – ORGANIZATION
This Festival was conceived and is organized by the Cultural Association Asolo Art Film Festival. AAFF
is a non-profit organization and since its inception, has received thousands of films from over 70 countries.

3 – DATE OF THE EVENT
The 41st edition of AAFF will be held in Asolo (Italy) from May 23rd to May 25th 2025.
4 – ELIGIBILITY
Registration is open for the 41st edition of Asolo Art Film Festival.
4.1 The deadline for submissions is December 31st, 2024.
4.2 Only works completed after January 1st, 2022 will be admitted to the competition.
4.3 Only films or videos in one of the following versions will be accepted: Italian, English, dubbed into Italian, dubbed into English, subtitled in Italian, subtitled in English.
Films that are being shot in languages other than Italian or English must be dubbed or subtitled in Italian or English. If this is the case and the film is not subtitled, we won’t be able to accept it.
5 – SUBJECTS
5.1 TIPOLOGY
Documentary films dedicated to art in all its forms, biographies, historical reconstruction works, critical interpretation of the protagonists of art, audiovisual works created with any technology used as an instrument of artistic expression, video art, animation, computer art, performance recording, etc.
5.2 LENGTH OF THE WORK:
Short films of 40’ or less.
Feature films lasting more than 40’
5.3 SUBJECT
Subject of the work encompasses all of the arts: visual art, sculpture, photography, painting, architecture, urban planning, village and historical sites, dance, music, theater, contemporary art, design and interior design, collections, films by artist, calligraphy, art history, museum, archeology, history, poetry, literature, circus art, brut art and street art, culinary arts, fashion, textile art, digital arts, cinema, gardens, art therapeutic, crafts, graphic arts, and related subject. All the works can be realized with hybridization of different techniques.
6 – SECTIONS
6.1 “FILMS ABOUT ART” (FILM ON ART)
Documentary films dedicated to art in all its forms.
6.2 “ARTISTIC FILMS” (ART FILM)
Audiovisual works created with any technology used as an instrument of artistic expression.
6.3 “VIDEO ART”
Short works and very short works realized with any symbolic language using the rhetoric of metaphor, allegory, synecdoche.
6.4 “ANIMATED MOVIE”
Works of any temporary duration executed with the technique of moving images in rapid temporary succession.
6.5 “MISCELLANEA”
Works of any temporary duration consisting of a hybridization of different audiovisual languages.
6.6 “FIRST IMPRESSIONS”
First Impressions” is a laboratory, an exploration that aims to capture audiovisual productions by students from Italian and international art academies, film schools and universities. Films in languages that indicate the ‘temperature’ of new generation audiovisual creation. These works may be made using any technique and be of any duration. The registration in this category will compete only for this. In case of selection, the author must prove his status of student.
The selection committee reserves the right to move a work from the section in which it was registered to another considered more appropriate, if necessary.
7 – JUDGEZ AND PRIZE
7.1 The panel of judges is made up of national and international experts chosen by the AAFF management team. The judges will award the following prizes to the most successful works admitted to the competition.
The judges may also award additional submissions of particular merit with a special mention. Some specific areas may be promoted by third parties.

7.3 SPECIAL PRIZES

Asolo Award for the Best Film in the special section “ITALIAE”:
Audiovisual works with a focus on Italian heritage and on the different aspects of Italian culture (works of art, villages, landscapes, local culture, traditions etc).

Asolo Award for the Best “Sound Landscapes”:
Dedicated to the unspeakable universe of complete sound-making of a movie, from ambient sounds to the music theme. The infinitesimal approach to a speculate view revealing the inner breath of the work.
8 – REGISTRATION FOR THE COMPETITION
8.1 REGISTRATION
To participate in the competition, you must register using the following website and adhere to the payment instruction below:
Fill in the entry form on the website www.filmfreeway.com. Make payment as described below and attach the required documents.
8.2 DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED:

Synopsis of the work which must be written in Italian or English (100 / 150 words)

Biography of the author (200 words)

A photograph of the author of the work in JPEG or PNG format
-
At least three images in JPEG or PNG format of separate frames and/or stills of the work.

Press kit and press coverage (if available)
-
Link for viewing through one of the video platforms (Youtube, Vimeo, etc.) downloadable in high-definition format CODEC H264 MP4. The film must be uploaded by granting download permission or it will be excluded from the selection;

Trailer (max. 1’30 ”) which will be broadcast for promotional purposes in various avenues of dissemination. Failure to do so will not lead to exclusion from the competition but is highly recommended.

Proof of payment of the registration fee.
8.3 FEES AND PAYMENT
Participation in the competition requires the payment of a registration fee equal to:

€ 20.00 (twenty) for all works with a duration of more than 20′

€ 10.00 (ten) for all works less than or equal to 20′

€ 5,00 (five) for the “FIRST IMPRESSIONS” section.
Payment will not be refunded even if an author withdraws from the competition.

9 – FORMAT
All submissions must have the following characteristics:

Resolution: 1920 x 1080

Format: mp4 or mov
If a work is selected, the festival secretariat will instruct the author about sending the short or feature film for an adequate screening in the hall (whether it is a ProRess file or H264 file). We do not accept BluRay, DVD or DCP.

10 – SELECTION OF WORK
The selection commitee will watch all the films submitted and will identify those eligible for the competition. The decision of the selection commitee is unquestionable.
By January 2025, the authors of the selected works will be informed of their admission to the competition by e-mail to the address provided at the time of registration.
Once selected, films cannot be withdrawn from the program without the consent of Asolo Art Film Festival.
AAFF declines all responsibility for any problems in receiving files. Failure to make the video available by the call deadline will result in elimination from selection.
Copies of the work sent to the competition will not be returned and will become part of the Asolo Art Film Festival archive which was founded for cultural, educational and dissemination purposes. The archive is also used to give the works the greatest possible visibility in the side activities of the Festival.
The selection of a film or video does not guarantee financial support for the presence of producers, directors and distributors.
11 – RIGHTS AND PRIVACY
By participating in the competition, the copyright holders of the selected films authorize the screening of the work as part of the 41st edition of Asolo Art Film Festival. They also authorize – exclusively for the promotion of the Festival – the inclusion of up to three-minute sequences from their work on national and international television networks and on the internet (Youtube, Vimeo, Social Networks etc.).
The AAFF reserves the right to affix its logo and to add any subtitles to the sequences extracted from the selected works.
The rights holders of the submitted works authorize the publication of the data provided on the website www.asoloartfilmfestival.com, on the social profiles of the festival, in the competition catalog and in printed and digital media.
Subscription to the Festival mailing list is also authorized, in accordance with the law. Personal information will be processed in accordance with the provisions of the Italian Privacy Law Decree of 30/06/2003 n° 196 and subsequent amendments and additions and will not be disclosed or communicated to third parties. The communication of email addresses by the participants is an expression of their consent to third-party use for the sole purpose of exchanging information relating to the Asolo Art Film Festival.
The copyright holders declare that the proposed work is original, realized after January 1, 2022 and that no material from existing works (literary, musical, multimedia or any other type) protected by the copyright of others has been used.
It is their task to protect the work in accordance with current legislation on copyright. They also declare that the work does not infringe the rights of third parties as governed by Italian Law 633/1941 and that it does not contain defamatory content, exempting the organizers of the Festival from any liability or claim made by third parties with regard to the work submitted to the competition.
If the nature of the work justifies the use of third-party repertory, subject to copyright, it is necessary to produce the relevant release. The images of the works sent must be copyright-free and may be used by Asolo Art Film Festival to promote the Festival this year and in subsequent editions, disseminating them both on paper and on digital versions.
Participation in the competition implies full acceptance of these Regulations.
AAFF reserved the right to shorten, postpone, interrupt or cancel the Festival should exceptional circumstances.
In the event of disputes regarding the interpretation of the Competition Notice or the Regulations, the Court of Treviso will be the designated competent authority.
