First actor of Tommaso Marinetti’s “great circus”, Boccioni translated poetry into art, giving shape and matter to the most important artistic avant-garde of the early twentieth century in Europe, Futurism.
He wanted to subvert the rules of traditionalist painting and sculpture, but he needed the fuse to set off the bomb. He found it at Milan Central Station on February 21, 1910. That day, Umberto Boccioni shakes the hand of the poet Filippo Tommaso Marinetti. From that moment on, art opens the gates of time and space, releasing ‘unique forms of continuity’ so real that they appear imaginary.
