Questo film raffigura una registrazione metaforica di un paesaggio/piramide leggendario esistente ma inesistente nel nord di Taiwan, utilizzando immagini che possiedono qualità sia realistiche che surreali. Oltre a catturare lo scenario naturale tangibile dell’area, costruisce diversi livelli di realtà incorporando archivi documentari e contenuti collegati alla regione, personaggi storici scomparsi e individui che hanno svolto i propri ruoli nella località. Il video diventa un database non sistematico, con un’esplorazione testuale del visivo, creando uno stato eccezionale “difficile da leggere”. Attraverso questo, tenta di esprimere lo stato eccezionale indeterminato che è difficile da definire in quell’area.
This film depicts a metaphorical record of an existing yet non-existent legendary landscape/pyramid in northern Taiwan, using imagery that possesses both realistic and surreal qualities. In addition to capturing the tangible natural scenery of the area, it constructs different layers of reality by incorporating documentary archives and content linked to the region, historical figures who have passed, and individuals who have played their own roles in the locality. The video becomes a non-systematic database, with a textual exploration of the visual, creating a “difficult-to-read” exceptional state. Through this, it attempts to express the indeterminate exceptional state that is difficult to define in that area.

MOTIVAZIONE / MOTIVATION
L’opera di Yo-Wen Mao, conferma l’ottimo livello creativo ed artistico della produzione taiwanese, che in questo caso ci offre un lungo viaggio onirico-tecnologico in un bosco, percorrendo il quale in soggettiva si incontrano inserti (in animazione) di figure umane ed animali, e soprattutto simboli e testi ideogrammatici, che appaiono come in una sorta di pseudo augmented reality. Il contrasto tra l’ambientazione e la sovrapposizione è poeticamente risolto nella fluidità del viaggio stesso, percorso quasi fluttuando tra le piante. Per la sua ricchezza simbolica, l’incanto e la grazia compositiva, gli viene conferito il premio per la categoria “oltre il reale”.
Yo-Wen Mao’s work, confirms the excellent creative and artistic level of Taiwanese production, which in this case offers us a long dreamlike-technological journey in a forest, along which we encounter subjective inserts (in animation) of human and animal figures, and above all symbols and ideogrammatic texts, which appear as in a sort of pseudo augmented reality. The contrast between the setting and the superimposition is poetically resolved in the fluidity of the journey itself, traveled almost floating among the plants. For its symbolic richness, enchantment and compositional grace, it was awarded the prize for the “beyond the real” category.
