Nel 1983, Franz Paludetto acquistò il Castello di Rivara ai piedi delle Alpi italiane. Un secolo prima, artisti da tutta Europa si erano riuniti qui per fondare la Scuola di pittura di Rivara. Franz diede inizio a una nuova era di mecenatismo che consacrò ancora una volta questo luogo come avamposto per la sperimentazione nell’arte contemporanea. L’ultima persona a sperimentare l’atmosfera privata di questo spazio incantevole, sospeso tra bellezza e decadenza, è un giovane artista che implora il Castellano di catturare i suoi ricordi su pellicola. Tra i due sboccia un’amicizia, insieme a un giocoso gioco di assenze. Ambientato su uno sfondo intimo, assistiamo alla storia principale dell’Italia durante la seconda metà del XX secolo, mentre il paese emerge dalla guerra e abbraccia nuove prospettive sociali. Franz si lascia alle spalle il trauma del fascismo e forgia una nuova identità. Nell’arco di una narrazione lunga un decennio, osserviamo la giovane donna crescere mentre l’ultimo castellano si avvicina alla morte.
In 1983, Franz Paludetto acquired Rivara Castle at the foot of the Italian Alps. A century earlier, artists from all over Europe had gathered here to establish the Rivara School of Painting. Franz initiated a new era of patronage that once again consecrated this place as an outpost for experimentation in contemporary art. The last person to experience the private ambiance of this enchanting space, suspended between beauty and decadence, is a young artist who implores the Castellan to capture his memories on film. A friendship blossoms between the two, along with a playful interplay of absences. Set against an intimate backdrop, we witness the main story of Italy during the latter half of the 20th century, as the country emerges from war and embraces new social perspectives. Franz leaves behind the trauma of fascism and forges a new identity. Over the span of a decade-long narrative, we observe the young woman growing up as the last castellan approaches death.
