Nel XVIII secolo, alla Fiera di Lipsia comparvero sempre più spesso degli espositori con miniere meccaniche in miniatura. In cambio di una piccola donazione, fornivano informazioni sul lavoro minerario sotterraneo. Le miniature venivano trasportate sulle spalle dei loro proprietari e per questo venivano chiamate anche “miniere a gobba”. In molti casi, gli espositori erano minatori invalidi le cui esposizioni mostravano il loro precedente posto di lavoro. Sebbene i minatori fossero stati deformati dalla loro precedente professione, si sentivano ancora legati ad essa.
In the 18th century, showmen with mechanical miniature mines increasingly appeared at the Leipzig Fair. For a small donation, they provided information about underground mining work. The miniatures were carried on the backs of their owners and were therefore also referred to as “hump mines”. In many cases, the showmen were invalid miners whose exhibits displayed their former workplace. Although the miners had been deformed by their former profession, they still felt connected to it.
