A visual journey through the mind of a man lost in limbo, guided by a cat as his conscience. A surreal, dreamlike story following Fred’s inner journey—moving from a departing airplane to claustrophobic school corridors, from visionary landscapes to cryptic conversations with Freud, the cat who embodies his unconscious. Through symbolic episodes—bullies, exams, missed encounters, a mysterious girl on a tram—the film weaves a mosaic of existential doubt and fragile identity. At its core lies a quiet realisation: life is not about reaching a destination, but about the journey itself, with its uncertainties, repetitions, and fleeting moments of beauty.

Spacetime Chronicles è un racconto surreale e onirico che segue il viaggio interiore di Fred, sospeso tra realtà, sogno e limbo. Da un aereo in partenza a corridoi scolastici claustrofobici, da paesaggi visionari a dialoghi criptici con Freud — un gatto che incarna il suo inconscio — Fred affronta paure, desideri e ricordi irrisolti.

Attraverso episodi simbolici — bulli, esami, incontri mancati, una misteriosa ragazza su un tram — il film tesse un mosaico di dubbio esistenziale e identità fragile. Al suo cuore giace una silenziosa rivelazione: la vita non riguarda il raggiungimento di una destinazione, ma il percorso stesso, con le sue incertezze, ripetizioni e fugaci momenti di bellezza."

Spacetime Chronicles marks a personal evolution in my animation journey. While my commissioned work has screened at festivals such as the Ottawa International Animation Festival, this film is, to date, the most intimate author-driven project I have made. It reflects on the idea that the meaning of life is not found in a final destination, but in the journey itself—in imperfect choices, pauses, and uncertainties that force us to begin again. Fred drifts through a liminal space between dream and reality, surrounded by suspended moments, unfinished encounters and symbolic figures—including a cat embodying his unconscious. Hand-drawn paper animation was the most direct way to convey that fragility and inner chaos. Some dialogue intentionally evokes a 1990s Italian–Japanese cultural context, with occasional linguistic quirks to suggest shifts between Italy and Japan; these are stylistic choices and are not meant to represent a culture. There is no single answer, no definitive revelation. Meaning is found in continuing forward—embracing doubt and discovering beauty in what lies in between.
