Something has changed
Sinossi
A documentary that traces the origins of blues in Spanish, paying tribute to Deacon Jones and celebrating his cultural legacy. Directed by Sergio “Chapete” Bonacci Lapalma, Something has changed begins as the story of blues keyboardist Melvyn “Deacon” Jones returning to Argentina. It ultimately becomes an off-centre biography of his companion Norberto “Pappo” Napolitano in the 1990s, when Blues Local and Pappo’s Blues Vol. 8 were major hits, the genre was booming thanks to Rock & Pop radio, and the guitarist played Madison Square Garden with B.B. King, who inducted him into the Blues Mafia. The film also serves as an obituary for champions such as Jones himself, Peter Deantoni, Javier Febré and Pato Larralde—rockers who now watch over us from a place as affectionate as it is demanding.
Director's statement
After meeting Melvyn “Deacon” Jones—an American blues legend and renowned organist who worked, among others, with John Lee Hooker—I promised I would help him return to Argentina, where his soul brother Norberto “Pappo” Napolitano lived. Driven by a spirit of adventure, I set out on a journey to trace the origins of Spanish-language blues. Although Deacon passed away during filming, this documentary honours his legacy and allows me to keep that promise. This road movie carries a powerful message from the pioneers of blues in our language, celebrates its rich cultural heritage, and aims to inspire future generations of blues lovers. As Deacon—also known as The Ambassador of Blues—would say: long live the blues.
