Satellites

Sinossi

Reactive relationships of attraction and repulsion between object and body expand through a subtle editing effect, making it seem as if the environment itself reacts and moves with them.

Director's statement

This short film, made in 2017, was originally shot in silence. In this 2024 version, I allowed myself the poetic freedom to create a minimal soundtrack, weaving sound into the original idea and adding another perceptual structure. The inspiration comes from a 2002 performance, Satellites, created for a series of interventions at the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo (MAM-SP), seeking a new situation of distance and displacement between body and object, as if both were satellites. In the simple, casual setting of the shoot, the concept was preserved and made clearer through subtle editing, suggesting that the space itself reacts and moves with the two “characters”: the body and the object. Working alone—as both the one filming and the one being filmed—made me feel like a satellite of myself: present and absent at once, author and person in the most everyday dimension. A constraint that seems suffocating can instead open new perceptions and sensations: something only the simplicity of independent cinema can offer.
