Generations of images
Sinossi
We sing a lullaby, not to lull to sleep, to this giant child of iron and concrete. We sing a lullaby so it may grow stronger and, upon it, the revolution may walk endlessly.” A poem as a cry of alarm for the revolution—or rather a lullaby aligned with the regime? Generation of Images traces deep transformations in Albanian history. In archives, forgotten places and the memories of different generations, ruptures and continuities become visible, left by the shift from communist dictatorship to capitalist democracy. The film finds its own language to analyse regime images and regimes of images: the language of poetry, which refuses logic and the linearity of conventional historiography, admits contradictions, and speaks as both thought and action. It makes it possible not only to look at images, but to let them speak—finding new meanings and uncovering underlying narratives. In this way, generations of images form a layered, polyphonic portrait of history, often revealing less about the past than about an ambivalent relationship to it, and showing how deeply the traces of history are inscribed in the fabric of the present.
