Autobiography of my diabetes
Sinossi
What lurks beneath this mix of transferred videotapes from family home movies and body horror films from my childhood that now clutter my computer desktop? Part medical treatise, part self-anamnesis, and a mashup tinged with nostalgia, this video essay reclaims the images emanating from my computer screen for the gaze of a diabetic.
Director's statement
The age-old, seemingly inexorable process whereby diseases acquire meanings (by coming to stand for the deepest fears) and inflict stigma is always worth challenging, and it does seem to have more limited credibility in the modern world, among people willing to be modern – the process is under surveillance now. […] But the metaphors cannot be distanced just by abstaining from them. They have to be exposed, criticized, belabored, used up.
